Do you need a cheap holiday insurance policy to protect you when you travel?
Should you suffer lost luggage, flight cancellation or fall ill while abroad, it’s important to make certain that you’re covered financially so that you can afford medical care, alternate flights or simply to replace any necessities. While most travel agents offer insurance policies when you book a holiday, very often these plans provide less coverage for a higher price, so it is often best to shop around. You may find a great deal with your home or car insurance provider, your building society or even your local supermarket which you can purchase for a year rather than for just the duration of your holiday.
When choosing your holiday insurance, the Consumers’ Association recommends you look for:
- At least £1m medical cover in Europe and £2m elsewhere in the world.
- At least £1,500 baggage and belongings cover with no limit set on any one item.
- Personal liability of at least £1m in case you have an automobile accident or other mishap involving another individual.
- Compensation for cancelled or truncated holidays or flights.
- An easily accessible emergency line that can be reached 24 hours a day.
- Membership in an Ombudsman scheme so your insurer can be held accountable should you experience problems.
