Sony enters MP3 market with a bean

Sony has launched its new portable music player, the Walkman Bean.

19/08/2005 | 12:36

Sony has announced the release of a slick new portable music player in a bid to challenge the market dominance of Apple's iPod.

The new ergonomic, curvy device, dubbed the Bean by the Japanese electronics giant, supports Sony's own ATRAC3 Plus format and MP3 and comes in four colours - blue (Tropical Ice), pink (Cotton Candy), black (Licorice) and white (Coconut).

The palm-sized Flash-based Network Walkman Bean comes in both 512MB and 1GB capacities and features a one-line OLED display and pop-up USB connector for both song transfer and battery charging.

Sony claims that the new device offers around 50 hours of playback from a single charge to the Lithium Ion cell and the 512MB version comes complete with an FM tuner.

The Sony Walkman Bean will be available in shops from mid-September this year with the 512MB NW-E205 retailing at £79 and the 1GB NW-E207 priced at around £99.
