'Destination Darwin', Australia's latest campaign

23/08/2005 | 15:58

When visiting Oz, many visitors concentrate on the east coast with its combination of national parks, sandy beaches and clear water.

However, the Northern Territory, which has Darwin as its capital, also has much to offer and 'Destination Darwin' hopes to redress the balance.

In Darwin visitors can experience the tropical climate and are close to many Aboriginal communities.

Although much of the Aborigine-owned Arnheim land remains closed to visitors, it is possible to fly to the Tiwi islands as part of a tour and experience the rich culture and crafts of the Aboriginal people.

The beautiful Litchfield national park and the World Heritage listed Kakadu national park are also within striking distance of Darwin and offer an array of wildlife.

Moreover, if it's adventure you're after then the Mary River has the world's highest density of crocodiles.

The 'Destination Darwin' campaign will cost $1.4 million and run until October 8th. It aims to promote Darwin as a youthful and multi-cultural harbour city.
