Brits are fast becoming a nation of workaholics if figures referred to by The Work Foundation are anything to go by.
A total of 30 per cent of Britons do not take their full holiday entitlement and many of us are still worrying about work when supposedly taking a break.
Although not as bad as the US, work culture in the UK is still geared towards extra hours and despite the government's 40 hour week ruling, many workers are routinely working much longer hours.
However, overworking is not mentally or physically healthy and can actually decrease office productivity.
Natalie Turner, a researcher at The Work Foundation, counsels against using electronic appliances enabling workers to virtually connect to the office whilst on holiday.
"Switching off mobiles and Blackberry type devices while on holiday should be practised by employees and encouraged by employers," she commented.
The Work Foundation recommends that in order to get a proper break workers should carefully schedule major projects and inform colleagues that they will not be contactable whilst away.
