Samsung's MultiMedia Cards are now being sampled by customers and if popular will soon be finding their way to the high street.
Transmitting data at 52 MB a second they offer a dramatic increase on the previous versions, which operated 20 times slower.
Samsung will launch a variety of devices such as the 1GB MMCmobile device that can support dual-voltage, either 1.8 or 3.3V, which makes it ideal for mobile phones.
The MMCplus offers extra memory of up to 2GB and is designed for digital cameras as an upgrade to Samsung's originally manufactured 64MB, 128MB and 512MB MMCs. It can also be sampled in a 2GB version.
Mass production of the devices that can also be used in MP3 players and portable multimedia players is expected to begin next month.
