Handwriting recognition software is to move into the next era now PhatWare's new CalliGrapher 8.0 has hit the market.
The updated version of the popular software includes support for Windows Mobile 5.0 and a soft input panel entitled Write Pad in addition to a statistical analyser.
Currently, CalliGrapher can analyse pen strokes and convert them into standard text. It can also recognise strings of alphanumeric characters.
The Write Pad feature will enable users to quickly convert handwritten notes into text on a specific area in addition to its present write anywhere function.
One of the main problems with handwriting recognition is accuracy, however, the 8.0 version will try to pre-empt this difficulty by learning the quirks of its user's handwriting so that it can eventually autocorrect them.
Simple mathematical features will also become easily recognisable with the new software.
CalliGrapher comes with 11 optional languages and a medical pack that contains 130,000 medical words making it suitable for medical professionals.
