Competition hots up in the music department

31/08/2005 | 17:15

Competition has been steadily growing between digital music providers such as Apple, Virgin, Napster and HMV.

Both Virgin's and HMV's music sites will be enabled by MusicNet, an online music provider and both are set to launch them within the week.

HMV has harnessed the support of The Who and McFly to record the classic 'My Generation' for the i-generation who could soon be purchasing music from its virtual store.

This comes after rumours are still circling about Apple's possible venture with Motorola to provide tunes directly to mobile phones.

The plethora of new developments emphasises the move towards a fully digitalised and online generation of consumers who are ever-interested in the latest launches and products.

Hopefully, the increased competition between companies will be good news for consumers who will be soon be presented with a wider choice of music providers.
