Cosmos has announced plans that it will only charge commission payments in set multiples, to keep the overall cost of package holidays down.
With many agents claiming they can undercut package holiday prices, Terry Williamson, managing director of Cosmos, said the emphasis for the 2006 contracts was on lowering costs, reports Travel Weekly.
Usually tour operators raise prices to include commission, so by lowering the price of the commission paid by holidaymakers the overall cost of the package goes down.
The idea behind the plans is that more holidays will be sold, giving Cosmos a greater return in the long run.
Mr Williamson told Travel Weekly: "Every component that goes into the holiday has to be examined and we have negotiations with airlines and hoteliers. It's also the remuneration agents get that's got to be examined."
