A scooter is a type of motorbike with a specific structural design. According to the alt.scooter FAQ, scooters have smaller wheels, a "step-through" frame and engines that sit low near the rear wheel. Many scooters are also called mopeds, which have smaller, less powerful engines and rarely go above 35mph; but scooters, as opposed to mopeds, do not have speed restrictions and often can go upwards of 100mph.

- "Lambretta" is also very well-known for its classic bikes and is particularly popular in Italy and is often seen featured in movies. One of the more popular models is the "Rallymaster."
- "Yamaha" began producing a modern range of motor scooters in the 1980s that are designed to be efficient and practical but to have a range of features not available on the older makes of scooters and to look good as well.
