Have you purchased your travel insurance yet?
The costs of falling ill on holiday, having an accident or simply losing your luggage can be very dramatic if you haven’t purchased the right travel insurance plan. While most travel agents offer insurance policies when you book a holiday, very often these plans provide less coverage for a higher price, so it is often best to shop around. You may find a great deal with your home or car insurance provider, your building society or even your local supermarket which you can purchase for a year rather than for just the duration of your holiday.
When choosing your travel insurance, the Consumers’ Association recommends you look for:
- At least £1m medical cover in Europe and £2m elsewhere in the world.
- A minimum of £1,500 baggage and belongings cover with no limit set on any one item.
- Personal liability of at least £1m.
- Compensation for cancelled or truncated trips.
- An emergency line that is contactable 24 hours a day.
- Membership in an Ombudsman scheme so your insurer can be held accountable should you experience problems.
